The Rudder is a 24/7 Internet Radio station providing Orthodox sacred music to reach people throughout the world and in all walks of life, Orthodox and non-Orthodox, clergy and laity, with the beautiful and transforming music of Orthodox worship. The Rudder is powered by the Orthodox Christian Network, an agency of SCOBA. The Rudder is programmed by Dr. Vladimir Morosan (contact him here), the host of  Icons in Sound, who has worked in Orthodox liturgical music for over 35 years, as a scholar, as a choral conductor, as a teacher, and as a publisher. The Rudder offers a unique opportunity to reach people throughout the world and in all walks of life, Orthodox and non-Orthodox, clergy and laity, with the beautiful and transforming music of Orthodox worship.

Our Mission

• The Rudder provides a serene listening experience of profound spiritual beauty, offering the finest recordings of Orthodox liturgical music around the clock, drawn from the world-wide heritage of Orthodox liturgical chant and sacred choral music.

• The Rudder marks the feasts and seasons of the Orthodox liturgical year by means of musical programming.

• The Rudder seeks to acquaint listeners with Orthodox music in a variety of styles, national origins, and languages, including traditional liturgical chant of Byzantine and Slavic traditions, Orthodox choral music from Russia, Serbia, Romania, Bulgaria, Georgia, and Greece, as well as compositions and arrangements by American Orthodox composers.

Vladimir Morosan

Vladimir Morosan, Doctor of Musical Arts, has worked in the field of Orthodox church music for over thirty-five years. After completing his undergraduate degree in music at Occidental College, in California, he received his Masters and Doctoral degrees in Choral Music from the University of Illinois. He has directed choirs in parishes of Russian, Serbian, and Antiochian backgrounds and has taught and lectured widely at church music workshops and conferences. He is Founder and Artistic Director of Archangel Voices, a professional-level choral ensemble dedicated to producing CDs of Orthodox liturgical music in English. His book "Choral Performance in Pre-Revolutionary Russia" (1986) is considered the definitive study of this topic. He is President of Musica Russica, a publishing house specializing in Orthodox and Russian music and serves as Editor-in-Chief of the “Monuments of Russian Sacred Music” series.  He is also the composer and editor of numerous choral arrangements, chiefly for Orthodox liturgical use, and the host of Icons in Sound, an internet-radio podcast that airs on the Orthodox Christian Network.
